🐇 Black-tailed Jackrabbit

A long-legged desert hare that leaves widely spaced hopping groups.

Hind 3–4 in. Y-shaped hop pattern like a rabbit but larger. Very long spacing between groups. Narrow hind prints. Open ground, few obstacles.

Desert, sagebrush, grassland, farmland. Western and southwestern U.S. into Mexico.

Crepuscular and nocturnal

Grasses, shrubs, cactus

Jackrabbits shed heat through their huge ears like radiators.
