The coyote's much larger cousin. Wolf tracks are big, deliberate and usually strung out in a near-perfect line.

4–5 in long. Four toes with heavy claw marks. Much larger than any coyote print. Direct-register walking — hind foot lands in the front print. Wide, blocky heel pad.

Where they live

Boreal forest, tundra, mountains, remote wilderness. Canada, Alaska, the northern Rockies and Great Lakes.

When they're active

Mostly nocturnal and crepuscular

What they eat

Deer, elk, moose, beaver, small mammals
