🐦 Great Blue Heron

Enormous long-toed prints stitched in a slow line along the shallows.

6–8 in long. Three long forward toes plus a back toe that registers. Very slender toes, small webbing at the base. Nearly straight line of single prints. Always at water's edge.

Marshes, pond edges, tidal flats, ditches. North and Central America.

Diurnal and crepuscular

Fish, frogs, snakes, voles

Herons hunt by standing still — sometimes for twenty minutes at a time.
