What the Wild is a wildlife identification app. We collect the minimum needed to identify what you found and to keep your collection in sync. We do not sell your data, and we never publish your precise location.
When you identify a track, sound or scat, the media you capture or upload is sent to our AI provider to produce an identification. It is used for that request and to show you your own results.
Your discoveries are stored on your device. If you create an account, they can also be stored in our backend so they follow you between devices.
Location is always optional. If you allow it, we use a coarse, approximate location to improve identification and to place discoveries on the map.
Public maps and share cards only ever show a generalised area — never your exact coordinates, and never precise locations of sensitive wildlife.
If you sign up, we store your email and basic profile details. Subscription payments are processed by our payment provider; we never see or store your full card details.
What the Wild is family-friendly and intended for general audiences. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.
You can clear your saved discoveries from the app at any time. To delete your account and everything associated with it, sign in, open your Profile, and tap “Delete account” — it happens immediately and can't be undone. If you can't access the app, contact us and we'll remove it for you.
Identifications are best-guess estimates with a confidence score, not expert determinations. Never handle wildlife, scat or animals based on an in-app result. For anything involving health, bites, or an animal behaving unusually, contact a professional.
