Common questions

How accurate is an identification?

Every result comes with a confidence score. High scores mean a strong match; low scores mean we're guessing. Treat results as a well-informed starting point, not a certainty.

It got the animal wrong. What can I do?

Try again with better evidence: for tracks, fill the frame and include something for scale; for sounds, record 10–20 seconds as close as is safe; for scat, capture the whole sample in good light. Adding optional context (habitat, time of day) helps a lot.

Do I need an account?

No. You can identify and save discoveries on your device without one. An account keeps your collection safe if you change devices.

Is What the Wild free?

Yes. Tracks, sounds and scat identification are free to use while we continue improving the app.

How do I delete my data?

Clear your saved discoveries in the app. To delete your account and everything tied to it, sign in, open your Profile, and tap “Delete account” at the bottom — it's instant and permanent. You can also email us if you get stuck.

I found an injured or aggressive animal.

What the Wild can't help with emergencies. Contact your local wildlife authority, animal control, or a licensed rehabilitator. Never approach or handle wildlife.
